Project Description

The Tewksbury Landfill project is a ballast-mounted solar facility constructed on the 50-acre Sutton Brook Disposal Area also known as “Rocco Landfill” in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. The project became operational in February 2022 and provides clean energy to the City of Everett, Tufts University, and local National Grid residents through Syncarpha’s Community Solar program, Solar Gardens by Syncarpha.

The PV modules will be supported by galvanized steel and aluminum brackets mounted on precast concrete foundation ballasts. The system will be connected to the National Grid electric utility grid and includes an approximately 2.0-megawatt alternating current (MWAC) battery storage system, producing enough clean energy annually to power about 400 homes (equivalent to avoiding harmful CO2 emissions from about 3.5 million pounds of coal burned).

Whether you’re a homeowner or renter receiving electricity through National Grid, you can take advantage of the many benefits this project has to offer by subscribing at no upfront cost. After subscribing, you can expect to receive your solar benefits within a few months.
