Solar & Storage Project Developer

Mission:

Syncarpha Capital is seeking an experienced, self-directed Solar & Storage Project Developer to play a critical role in expanding our portfolio of solar PV and energy storage projects. This position bridges site origination, technical viability screening, real estate acquisition, local/county/state/federal permitting, and utility interconnection. The candidate for this position should be flexible and capable of working in a dynamic team of professionals, and should be self-directed, knowledgeable, experienced, and skilled in managing the development of projects through their entire lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

Site Prospecting & Viability Screening

  • GIS & Desktop Prospecting: Identify prospective solar and energy storage sites using GIS mapping platforms, satellite imagery, and data-driven tools to evaluate land availability, slope, aspect, and parcel geometry.
  • Environmental & Constraints Screening: Utilize publicly available spatial data to screen prospective parcels for environmental sensitivities, including wetlands, floodplains, protected species habitats, soil conditions, and agricultural restrictions.
  • Municipal Permitting & Ordinance Screening: Investigate town, city, and county land use zoning codes, land development ordinances, and local solar bylaws to confirm site suitability, setback requirements, special use permit pathways, and local political feasibility.
  • Interconnection Analysis: Analyze utility grid infrastructure, distribution three phase capacity, hosting capacity maps, circuit voltage, and substation proximity to evaluate initial interconnection viability prior to site control commitments.

Land Origination & Real Estate Negotiation

  • Landowner Engagement: Initiate direct contact and cultivate long term relationships with private landowners, commercial landholders, and community stakeholders.
  • Agreement Negotiation: Lead the structuring and negotiation of site control contracts – including Lease Option agreements, Solar Ground Leases, Purchase Option agreements, and any other necessary easements.
  • Landowner Attorney & Title Coordination: Work directly with landowner legal representatives and internal/external legal counsel to resolve contract terms and cure title issues.

Local Permitting, Tax & Community Engagement

  • Local Approvals & Land Use: Prepare application packages and lead project approval efforts before municipal planning boards, zoning boards and county commissioners to secure conditional use permits, site plan approvals, and variances.
  • Community & Stakeholder Relations: Represent Syncarpha Capital at public hearings, town council meetings, and abutter discussions. Build local municipal and community support for solar and energy storage initiatives.
  • Tax Agreements (PILOT): Assist in negotiating tax structuring agreements, such as Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) or special assessment agreements with local tax assessors and county bodies.
  • Consultant Management: Scope, select, and manage external consultants (civil engineers, environmental scientists, survey crews, legal counsel) to deliver high-quality site diligence and permitting deliverables on schedule and within budget.

Interconnection & Technical Development

  • Utility Interconnection Queue Management: Prepare and submit interconnection requests to electric utilities and manage interconnection applications through system impact studies, facilities studies, and Interconnection Agreement (IA) execution.

Lifecycle Project Leadership & Execution

  • Full Lifecycle Execution: Lead assigned projects through all development stages from initial greenfield origination to development complete (Notice to Proceed – NTP), ensuring seamless handoff to EPC and Construction teams.
  • Schedule & Budget Control: Develop and manage detailed project development schedules, milestone tracking systems, expenditure budgets, and risk registers to ensure projects progress on plan.

Desired Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • Experience: 3–6+ years of direct project development experience in solar energy, battery storage, or real estate development. Proven track record of taking projects from early inception through permitting and construction readiness.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required
  • Software & Tools: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project), GIS mapping software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or web-based prospecting tools), and project management systems (e.g., Salesforce).
  • Attributes & Travel: Self-directed worker with high entrepreneurial initiative, strong negotiation and public speaking skills, and willingness to travel 20–30% for site visits, landowner meetings, and public board hearings. Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
  • Communication & Organizational Skills: Candidate should have strong organization and communication skills.
  • Work Authorization: Must have full legal authorization to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
