Last summer, the board agreed to buy about 4 million kilowatt hours, or kWh, of solar power from Syncarpha Capital of New York. The energy is to be generated from 30 acres of solar panels on a capped landfill in Palmer, Mass.
“In my opinion this is a very good rate and a fair price,” Chad Laurent said.
Once it is built and starts generating electricity — possibly in about a year — the town would see immediate savings in its electric bills. It is estimated the town could save about $135,000 in the first six months.
